About us

Arbitration and mediation are extrajudicial means of dispute resolution, through which the contracting parties choose a third party (arbitrator) to resolve the dispute.

With the enactment of Law 9,307, of September 23, 1996, later amended by Law No. 13,129, of 2015, arbitration found the necessary legal support to develop in Brazil. Since 1996, arbitration has evolved steadily and has established itself as an option for resolving contentious issues involving available property rights.

It was in this context that, in 2001, some arbitration experts met and created the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBAr).

The CBAr is a non-profit association whose main purpose is the academic study of arbitration and non-judicial methods of dispute resolution.

To disseminate and promote the institution of arbitration, CBAr promotes several activities, holds Congresses annually and publishes the Brazilian Arbitration Journal, by Editora Kluwer.
